Dawn Pirie - Manager

Hi I’m Dawn, owner and manager of The Learning Meadow. I have over 25 years experience in early years learning and my goal and vision is to offer a nurturing learning space in an outstanding outdoor nursery, based on the Scandinavian approach to early years’ education.

I have a passion for outdoor learning and hold a B.A Honours degree in Early Years and Childhood Studies. I have used the insights gained of outdoor learning, during my studies and have developed them into the nurturing and sustainable approach for our new outdoor nursery.  I am paediatric first aid trained.

I have truly immersed myself in the outdoor learning principles on a study visit to Stockholm where I observed how children benefit both emotionally and socially through the natural environment.

More recently I have been working with young adults with profound and multiple learning difficulties who have benefitted from the therapeutic advantages of engaging with animals. Observing the impact has motivated me to become involved with animal care at The Learning Meadow and have introduced animals such as sheep, goats and chickens for the children to care for.

I feel very privileged to have a strong, supportive and passionate team around me and together we will ensure your children access a high level of care and a range of experiences through nature.

Gabrielle - Deputy Manager

Hi, I am Gabbi. I have worked in an Early Year setting since finishing my Bachelor’s Degree in Education. I am paediatric first aid trained.

I have been fortunate enough to travel to St Lucia in South Africa. Whilst I was there, I did voluntary work in a local school and nursery. It was here that I found my passion for outdoor learning. Having studied how children thrive in more natural outdoor settings, I knew both from my experience and my studies that The Learning Meadow's ethos and setting was for me.

It has always been my calling to work with children. I am imaginative and creative, I am excited to sit around the campfire with the children and share stories, and a cookie or two.

Andrea - Early Years Partner

Hi I’m Andrea and I have been in the education sector for over seven years, I have a first class degree in Early Years Education. During my degree I visited three forest schools in Denmark and my final dissertation compared the Danish pedagogical approached to English. I love that the ethos of The Learning Meadow follows my passion for all things outdoors.

Before joining The Learning Meadow I was in Germany for a year where I spent a lot of time outdoors with children and animals deepening my enthusiasm for outdoor education and language.

Over the last couple of years my partner and I have converted an old van into a camper van (he’s called Bert) and at weekends we love going off to explore new sights.
